Origen Adamantius (c. 185-253), one of the most prominent exegetes of early Christianity, presented an unusual theological theory on Jesus Christ as the image of God. According to Origen, the Father, invisible and unimaginable to the entire creation, shaped his own invisible image. Adamantius regarded Jesus Christ as the only perfect image of invisible God. He claimed that a man was created to represent God. Thus, the image of God is perfected in a person who lives according to the will of God. Owing to the coming of the Savior, the image (είκόν) revealed the true and perpetual reality, the final goal of a person living in the material world. In Jesus Christ, a man experiences and contemplates perfection which denotes the shift from the image to the truth. Further, in Christ as the icon of God and through Christ, a man is able to experience the joy and the unity of being in close relation with the Creator.
