Abstract
Christian witness does not only proclaim the Good News about Jesus Christ, but it also instigates others to form an attitude towards it. The witness is true and effective when the ‘private’, personal confession of faith is combined with the ‘public’, official teaching of the Church in accordance with the Magisterium Petrinum. This synthesis is made in us by Christ with the power of the Holy Spirit acting in us in the sacraments. The privileged place of forming Christians for a witness so conceived is the Eucharistic Liturgy, which is continued in acts of Christian love. Serving this formation is an expression and fulfilment of true spiritual fatherhood.
