Abstract

This practical and pastoral essay is an answer to the questions met frequently in many prayer groups and ecclesial movements: how to find a reliable Catholic commentary to the biblical text? Can we trust without reservations such commentaries and if not – what should be our approach? The answer is based on the method given us in the Benedict XVI’s book Jesus of Nazareth. The Pope urges there all readers to ask logical questions to the thesis proposed by biblical scholars: will they pass the trial of logical questioning and argumentation? This is the method applied in parts of the very text of Jesus of Nazareth and it may be appropriate to use the same method in other theological contexts.
