„Caritas pastoralis” jako urzeczywistnienie cnoty męstwa w wybranych pismach św. Józefa Sebastiana Pelczara

Abstract

W pracy podjęto próbę reinterpretacji pojęcia męstwa w wybranych dziełach św. Józefa Sebastiana Pelczara. Na drodze analizy retrospektywnej zapytano najpierw, jakie ujęcie cnoty męstwa było bliskie Pelczarowi. Następnie poszukiwano implikacji praktycznych realizacji męstwa w świetle wyzwań pastoralnych Kościoła, widzianych z perspektywy biskupa i profesora. Podjęto również próbę aktualizacji zapisanych doświadczeń duchowych Pelczara na gruncie teologii praktycznej, odczytanych w kontekście „caritas pastoralis”, urzeczywistniającej cnotę męstwa w realiach życia współczesnego Kościoła. Na tej podstawie sformułowano najważniejsze wnioski i rekomendacje. Wciąż aktualny pozostaje „apel pastoralny”, owoc rozmyślań duchowych św. Pelczara, adresowany nie tylko do ówczesnych, ale także współczesnych duszpasterzy. Dotyczy on syntezy męstwa, mającego źródło w miłości, wraz ze stałością i łagodnością, które stanowią o wyrazistości i autentyczności „caritas pastoralis”.

The paper discusses the issue of reinterpreting the concept of courage (the virtue of fortitude) in selected works of Saint Joseph Sebastian Pelczar. Referring to the tools of retrospective analysis, it was first asked about the virtue of fortitude definition as proposed by Pelczar. Then the practical implications of implementing the virtue of fortitude in light of the pastoral challenges of the Church, as seen from the perspective of the Bishop of Przemyśl, were sought. The task was also assumed to ‘actualize’ Pelczar’s recorded spiritual experience on the ground of practical theology, in the “caritas pastoralis” perspective, making the virtue of fortitude viable in the realities of Church life. Based on the study’s results, key conclusions and recommendations were also formulated. The ‘pastoral call’, a treasure of Joseph Sebastian Pelczar’s spiritual meditations, addressed to his contemporaries, but also to today’s pastors, is still relevant. It is not ‘so much’ and not ‘only’ about courage alone, but about courage flowing from love, and consistency combined with gentleness, which constitute the authenticity of “caritas pastoralis”.
