Dr hab. Adam Bieniek (1969-2015) – życie i dzieło. Związki krakowskiego arabisty z Opolszczyzną

Abstract

Adam Bieniek urodził się w Nysie, a wychował w Goświnowicach. Uczęszczał do Liceum Ogólnokształcącego w Nysie. Swoją karierę naukową związał z Krakowem. Tam w Instytucie Filologii Orientalnej uzyskał magisterium (1994), doktorat (1998), a następnie habilitację (2006). Zmarł w Krakowie w 2015 r. Pozostawił po sobie wiele ciekawych dzieł. Okazał się prawdziwym pasjonatem Bliskiego Wschodu, arabistą, poliglotą i erudytą. Jego podstawowe pole badawcze dotyczyło XIII-wiecznego encyklopedysty Al-Qazwīnīego, historii Damaszku zwłaszcza w okresie wypraw krzyżowych, relacji chrześcijan ze światem islamskim. Tekst bazuje przede wszystkim na materiale źródłowym znajdującym się w Archiwum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. W niniejszym artykule opisuję życie i dzieło naukowe, jak i dydaktyczne krakowskiego uczonego. Badając świat kultury arabskiej i islamskiej, proces przyswajania myśli antycznej przez świat islamu, Bieniek zajmował się także prawem szariatu. Chcę wskazać także na jego związki z Opolszczyzną.Adam Bieniek, born in Nysa, grew up in Goświnowice. He attended the Secondary School in Nysa. He connected his scientific career with Kraków. There, at the Institute of Oriental Philology, he obtained his master’s degree (1994), doctorate (1998), and then habilitation (2006). He died in Krakow in 2015. He left behind many interesting works. He turned out to be a true enthusiast of the Middle East, an Arabist, polyglot and erudite. His basic field of research concerned the 13th-century encyclopedist Al-Qazwīnī, the history of Damascus, especially during the Crusades, and the relationship between Christians and the Islamic world. The work is based primarily on the source material from the Archives of the Jagiellonian University. In this article, I describe the life and scientific and didactic activities of the scientist from Kraków. Studying the world of Arab and Islamic culture, the process of assimilation of ancient thought by the world of Islam, Bieniek also dealt with Sharia law. I also want to point to his connections with the Opole region.
