Pozycja Myśl apologetyczna księdza Idziego Radziszewskiego – pierwszego rektora Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła IIBanasińska, Ewa (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)The aim of this paper is to present the apologetic thoughts of Fr. Idzi Radziszewski, the first Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin. Rev. I. Radziszewski believed that one of his most important duties was to fight against erroneous views concerning religion. In his works, he undertook a discussion with the evolutionary concept of religion and an incorrect understanding of the relationship between theology and natural sciences. In order to show the above mentioned dimensions of Fr. Radziszewski’s apologetic thought, we have analyzed four of his main works, considered to be the leading works in Polish apologetics. The analysis was conducted with an attempt to show two main topics, the focus points of the first Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin in his defense of Catholic thinking. These were: the question of the origin of religion and the relationship between theology and natural sciences. This analysis made it possible to show that, according to his views, Fr. I. Radziszewski: 1) opposed the conviction, widespread during his time, that only the so-called “scientific method” (negating e.g. philosophical reflection) allows one to reach the truth; 2) showed irremovable contradictions in the evolutionary concept of the origin of religion that prevailed in his time; 3) pointed to the rational basis for the supernatural origin of religion; 4) pointed to the necessity of respecting cognitive competence when conflicts arise between knowledge based on scientific cognition and knowledge that is the fruit of theological reflection; 5) he stated that no discoveries in the area of the sciences could ever, due to the different object of knowledge, undermine valid theological claims.Pozycja A Tanzanian Culture: Catalyst or Inhibitor of Social Development? A Short Comparison of the Cases of Dr. J.K. Nyerere and Dr. J.P. MagufuliGórka, Jacek (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)Undoubtedly, culture is a unique way in which every human being identifies himself with a group of people and, in parallel, differentiates from others. It is also obvious that culture is not stable in its form, mostly because it is considered as an average of many factors determined by time, place, etc. Hence, culture searches for uniqueness, and that makes it the overriding objective for a group of people. On the other hand, it provides an ancillary support through common values that makes us human. On top of that, culture expresses itself through unique form of communication and as such might become a irreplaceable tool in the whole process of sending and receiving information. In our study, we made an effort to analyze the above-presented ambiguous concept of culture and to compare it with two exemplary leaders of Tanzania, namely Nyerere and Magufuli. Such analyses meant to help us to understand how they understood, lived, and used culture in their struggle for the development of Tanzania.Pozycja Argument skrypturystyczny w teologii fundamentalnej i uwarunkowania jego waloru motywacyjnegoSłupek, Roman (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)One of the essential arguments in fundamental theology invoked to authenticate the divine dignity of Jesus of Nazareth is the argument from Scripture. This argument demonstrates that in the historical person of Jesus of Nazareth the messianic prophecies and saving promises of the Old Testament were fulfilled. This line of thought was already present in the auto-apology of Jesus of Nazareth and in the evangelizing activity of the Apostolic Church. The aim of this article is to point out the historical and theological determinants of the motivational value of this argument, which have not been sufficiently shown so far. To achieve this goal, the historical overview of the argument was first presented. Next, three important determinants of its motivational value were shown. Invoking this argument to authenticate the messianic claims of Jesus of Nazareth, one must first bear in mind the fact of the multiformity of Judaism at the time in which He lived. No less important is the correct understanding of the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies in Jesus of Nazareth. Related to this is the third issue – the practice of relecture of the sacred text in the Jewish tradition. The outlined determinants, properly taken into account in the lecture of fundamental theology, can contribute to a more effective motivation to the Christian faith by means of a biblical argument.Pozycja Sprawozdanie z XVII Zjazdu Stowarzyszenia Teologów Fundamentalnych w PolsceArtemiuk, Przemysław (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)Pozycja Kulturowa i religijna funkcja cmentarzaRabczyński, Paweł (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)The cemetery is a place where the sacred and the profane, cultural and religious values overlap. The aim of the following work is a synthetic portrayal of the cultural and religious roles of the cemetery. Their presentation will be based on history divided into five periods characterised by inhumation practices: prehistoric burial, necropolis outside city limits, cemeteries within city limits, burial in churches, modern cemeteries outside city limits. Apart from several exceptions the analysis focuses on burials on the Western European territory. It utilises the source material and the methodology of humanist studies (archeology, history, culture and religion studies) and theology. The location and characteristics of a necropolis has always been shaped by the specific culture of the given community, religious tradition, worldview, geography as well as sanitary considerations. In this sense cemeteries constitute monuments of civilizations, cultures and religions. Despite the changing rules of inhumation throughout time it can be stated that the cultural and religious roles of the cemetery are elementary and irreplaceable. The two roles overlap and creatively cooperate.Pozycja Complementary Paradigms in Cultural AnthropologyMich, Tadeusz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)Two of the competing ways of knowing in cultural anthropology are the paradigms of interpretation as presented in the work of Clifford Geertz and the scientific model as represented by Roy Rappaport. This article studies the similarities between the two paradigms in anthropology by comparing mythical and scientific ways of interpreting the cosmos with the interpretative and scientific ways of interpreting ways of knowing in anthropology. To this purpose I have selected one version of a creation myth, the Kaypulaquena myth of the Yucuna Indians from the Amazon and one scientific model of interpreting the universe, the Big Bang Theory. The problem I address is how myth and science approach the world. The study focuses on similarities between the Yucuna mythical way of interpreting the world and the Big Bang Theory way of approaching the cosmos. My assumption is that in both paradigms there are similarities in the use of epistemological assumptions and metaphors.Pozycja Hierarchiczna struktura Kościoła w ujęciu kardynała Stanisława NagyegoKałuża, Krystian (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)The issue of hierarchical structure of the Church was one of the main academic interests of Cardinal Stanisław Nagy SCJ. The article attempts a systematic and at the same time critical evaluation of his research in this field. The paper adopts the following structure: first, the historical and theological context of Nagy’s reflection has been presented; then method he used, the concept of the Church he assumed and the problem of the Church’s genesis have been pointed out. Three further themes are directly related to the hierarchical structure of the Church: apostolate, succession and papal primacy. Finally, the question of the importance of the ecclesiastical hierarchy in the life of the Church and the relationship of the hierarchical priesthood to the universal priesthood of all believers has been posed.Pozycja Grupa Jezus – Kościół – ubodzy podczas pierwszej sesji Soboru Watykańskiego II w świetle zasobów archiwalnych biskupa Charles-Marie HimmeraPietrzak, Andrzej (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)During the Second Vatican Council, there was an informal group of bishops, popularly known as the Church of the Poor, who placed the relationship between Jesus, the Church, and the poor at the center of the debates. The archives of the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve preserve archival reports of meetings that took place at the Belgian College in Rome. Considering that the contents of these sources are not commonly recognized, the author provides an introduction to their contents using source critical analysis. In the first part, he discusses the research status. In the second section, he examines the reports’ content.Pozycja Fullness of Life iIn Mae Enga Traditional Religion and Christ the LifeDlugosz, Miriam Maria (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)The Mae Enga are friendly, hospitable, strong of character and different from the other groups of Papua New Guinea. Through a brief reflection on the traditional world-view centered life and on evaluation of their concept of life, the study forms a foundation for dialogue and inculturation. The material used in this article, beside the literature, is data collected during my research in 2020, via one-on-one interview (30 women and 30 men) and group discussions (10 women and 10 men) from two villages: Par and Yampu). A qualitative method was employed. The findings of the research show that the whole life of the Mae Enga is oriented towards reciprocal relationships with the entire universe to experience abundant life here on earth, within one’s own clan community. Despite the socio-cultural changes that influence their values, beliefs and attitudes, the “life” remains the central value but the ways of obtaining life have changed. The traditional religion is giving space to Jesus Christ the Life, who takes Mae Engans “beyond” their own clan and offers to them a new identity as followers of Christ, Ktaisanya Tata (Tribe of Jesus Christ). The presented reflection creates a space for dialogue between Christianity and culture. Jesus Christ enters the present Mae Enga socio-cultural reality in order to transform it, to offer a new identity and a new dimension in their search. In turn, the Mae Enga offer to the world the “Face of Christ” with its own cultural features and values, with its ways of worship and reconciliation.Pozycja Rozmaitość znaczeń fenomenu PachamamySzyszka, Tomasz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)During the Synod on the Amazon (Rome 2019), there was a lot of misunderstanding concerning allegedly idolatrous practices performed in relation to wooden statues which by many people were seen as an idol of the Amazonian Pachamama. To respond to these accusations, one must first highlight the differences between ways of understanding of the nature of the Pachamama and the corresponding believes among Andean people, and how Pachamama is seen outside the Andean world? If, under certain conditions, one can be inclined to accept Pachamama as an Andean deity, then the Amazonian goddess Pachamama appears to be a bizarre concept. Firstly, this article will attempt to explain how Pachamama was once understood and how it is interpreted today by the Andean Indians. Secondly, I will try to present how the idea of Pachamama as Mother Earth in terms of environmental protection began to be propagated in the world outside the area of Andean Indians culture and what the repercussions of this movement are. The search for answers, based on solid knowledge, allows us to indicate the difference between the appeal to symbolism and idolatrous religious worship.Pozycja Od „antropologii otwartej” do „chrystologii człowieka”. Wybrane aspekty filozoficzno-teologicznej refleksji Maurice’a ZundelaZieliński, Sławomir (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)The works of the Swiss theologian Maurice Zundel (1897-1975) are rich and diverse. To a large extent they are unknown and uncommented on, especially in non-francophone countries. In addition to a philosopher and theologian, he is seen as a spiritual master, mystic, poet in love with the beauty of the liturgy, retreatist, and apologist for the Christian faith. His entire writing legacy contains anthropological reflections that are still relevant despite the time that has passed. This article constitutes an attempt to offer an introduction to Zundel’s anthropology perceived in a broadest sense. The text consists of three parts. In the first one, the context for Zundel’s philosophical and theological reflection is outlined, in which he specifies anthropological criteria. The entirety of Zundel’s contemplation is focused around two questions: about man (quel homme?) and about God (quel Dieu?), and in such an order: from man to God. The principles of the so-called “open anthropology” are then presented, referring to such terms as alterité, intériorité and relation, or to expressions concerning man: from a “prefabricate” to “person.” The third part is an attempt to understand anthropological principles within the context of the divine revelation: God and man in their mutual relationship, the importance of Jesus Christ and the whole trinitarian community in the process of getting to know the identity of man.Pozycja Kościół pomiędzy negacją a akceptacją świataDola, Tadeusz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)The article addresses the problem of the Church’s relationship to the world. Christians have always been aware that they have been sent into the world to preach the Gospel, with the consequent aim of transforming the world so that the kingdom of God initiated by Christ could be realised in it. Thus, the mission of Christ’s disciples had to involve engaging with the surrounding reality in its social, political, cultural and economic dimensions. The aim of this article will be to show how Christians understood and implement their participation in shaping the human world. It is quite apparent that Christians have always faced (up until today) a dilemma that can be summarised in the phrase: the Church between negation and acceptance of the world. The unravelling of this dilemma was influenced mainly by two factors. The first was the awaiting of the end of time, which was to be brought about by the final coming of the kingdom of God. This motif in shaping the attitude of Christians towards the world played a decisive role in the first generations of Christ’s disciples, although it was also significant in later centuries. The second factor was the legal status of Christianity – above all in the Roman Empire, where Christianity took its roots most deeply and spread most widely. With these initial assumptions in mind, the article first examines the question of Christians’ hope for the imminent arrival of the kingdom of God, which had a significant impact on their activity in the temporal world. In the next stage of consideration, the period in which the radical change in the legal status of Christianity took place at the time of Constantine the Great and his successors is examined. These transformations fundamentally altered the Church’s relationship to the world while the legal and social position of the Church formed at that time affected for centuries the manner in which the Church was present in the world. The consequences of the transformations of the Constantinian era have persisted essentially into modern times. The examination of this issue has become the subject of the final section of this article.
