The paper discusses Whitehead’s contribution to the monumental work Principia Mathematica written together with Bertrand Russell. After presenting the beginnings of the project, its logical foundations are briefly analysed. Philosophical aspects of this work are discussed with the special emphasis on their influence on the future Whitehead’s philosophy.
