The childless by choice in perception of young adults
Szymańska, Joanna (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
Zamierzona bezdzietność coraz częściej zajmuje uwagę badaczy różnych dyscyplin naukowych (m.in. Callan 1983, Kalus 2002, Mynarska 2009, 2011, Siany 2002).

O znaczeniu modeli teoretycznych w badaniach rodziny
Lachowska, Bogusława Halina (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
The aim of the article is to show the positive significance of family theories in examining family relations and family functioning and to present the most significant models in the area. Discussing the benefits resulting from using theoretical models in family researches it has been noted that they allow to identify factors essential to understand family relations and family functioning, they provide the supposed causal relationships between variables, they also equip researchers with the common academic language and allow for comparing results of different researches. They are also the basis of working out reliable and accurate research tools which can be used in clinical jobs and counselling. Family theories have been discussed as being grouped according to Skelton and cooperators (2012) into three main categories: family as a system, family stress and resilience and families in time and space.

Choroba w rodzinie. Zastosowanie metodologii teorii ugruntowanej do analizy funkcjonowania rodziny w sytuacji choroby
Mazurek, Emilia (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
The intention of the author is to encourage the methodological reflection on the possibility of using the grounded theory methodology in the analysis of the situation of a person affected by a chronic somatic disease and their family. The author presents the key assumptions of classical grounded theory methodology developed by Barney G. Glaser and Anselm L. Strauss. Then, the author describes the constructivist grounded theory methodology by Kathy Charmaz, comparing its concept with classical approach. The rest of the text presents the experience of chronic somatic disease as a research area in which the methodology of grounded theory may be useful. Referring to the system model of the family, the author argues that the disease impacts the patient and their family. It should be considered by a researcher who uses the grounded theory methodology.

The theme of the presented research is the quality of life considered in the context of the sexual life satisfaction and the relationship satisfaction. 148 persons staying in informal or formal relationship have been examined. The Quality of Life Questionnaire by Juczyński, Sexual Life Satisfaction Questionnaire by Nomejko, Dolińska-Zygmunt and Questionnaire of Well Accorded Marriage by Plopa, Rostowski have been just in the measurement. Results have revealed important links between sexual satisfaction, quality of life and marriage satisfaction. There are no differences between sexes in the quality of life. Quality of life is important for both men and women in connection with sexual satisfaction. There are differences between sexes in this area – sexual life satisfaction is not equally correlated with relationship satisfaction for both men and women.

Bezdzietność – wybór, ograniczenia, czy splot okoliczności? Jakościowa analiza procesu pozostawania bezdzietną
Mynarska, Monika (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
Even though survey studies recurrently show that Poles want to have children and that parenthood is important to them, more and more Polish women remain childless. This discrepancy calls for a closer consideration. We need to understand a nature of childbearing desires and intentions much better and investigate obstacles which m ight prevent women from fulfilling them. In this paper, I analyse 20 in-depth semi-structured interviews with childless women aged 37-46. The qualitative methodology is applied to explore what preferences, circumstances and life-choices of the respondents have led them to childlessness. The respondents discussed several factors: A lack of a partner, fecundity problems, postponement of childbearing related to employment or life priorities other than family and childbearing. However, the results show that it is rarely possible to find a single reason for remaining childless, as various factors collide and interact in women’s lives.

Resilience understood as mental strength and resourcefulness of life is also important during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. The level of resilience can decide how the expectant mother will perceive the process of pregnancy, childbirth and all difficulties related to this time and thereby establish bond with her child. This bond is formed during the prenatal period and is extremely important for the proper development, as the quality of attachment in pregnancy is related to the quality of attachm ent after childbirth. The aim of this study is to analyse the relationship of psychological resilience of mothers and their sense of bond with the unborn child, taking into account three variables, significant for the perception of pregnancy and building the mother-child attachment during this period: the order of pregnancy (first or subsequent), experiencing difficulties with conceiving and the level of perceived support from a partner and other loved ones. The study involved 89 women in the third trimester of pregnancy. 73% of the first pregnancy, while 27% of the subsequent (second or third) pregnancy. 24.5% o f women surveyed by us experienced trouble with conceiving. The women completed the questionnaire Maternal- Fetal Attachm ent Scale and the Scale of Resilience, as well as a questionnaire about the course of the current pregnancy, the subjective sense of support from loved ones and a personal sense of preparation for the impending birth. Results; Resilience proved to be a significant factor in creating a bond with the unborn child, but different aspects of it have proven to be important for women who are pregnant for the first and subsequent time. The feeling of support from loved ones is important in mother-fetal attachment, however solely for women in their first, not second or third pregnancy. In addition, women who have experienced difficulty with conceiving, compared with women who did not experience such difficulties, developed more intense attachment with their yet unborn child and created stronger mental representation of the child. The results of the study revealed a different psychological experience of pregnancy, depending on whether it is first or subsequent, as well as the necessity of taking into account the history of any difficulties with conceiving in the analysis of the mother-fetal attachment.

„Eurosieroctwo” jako rezultat przemiany więzi rodzinnych
Brągiel, Józefa (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
The article presents the increasing work migration of the Polish adult population and the resulting „euro-orphanhood,” most commonly defined as the situation of a child whose one or both parents have left the country for work purposes. The disordered bond with the absent parent(s) as perceived by the child and the transnational strategies used by non-residential parents to maintain the relationship with the child are discussed.

Frozen future – ethical questions of social egg freezing
Kovács, Gusztáv (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
This paper aims at making a critical judgment about the practice of social egg freezing. Most papers on the ethical issues of oocyte cryopreservation for non-medical reasons seem to welcome the wide range application of the new fast freezing technology. This paper aims to challenge some of the assumptions used to justify this new practice. It does so by viewing partnership and parenthood in terms of individual biographies which need careful planning in our modem risk societies. Papers in favour of social egg freezing argue that it could serve as a tool to expand reproductive autonomy of women, and also as a means promoting gender equality. They also reason that it promoted a responsible planning of biographies, since it enabled women to postpone important decisions concerning reproductive issues or partnership. As a response I will try to show the inadequateness of these arguments by analysing the logic behind social egg freezing, and also the desires and misconceptions the method is associated with.

Zastosowanie metod badań jakościowych w analizach rodzin osób bezrobotnych
Geisler, Robert (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
Family – as each social phenomenon – is for researchers a methodological challenge, which means answering the questions: How to investigate family? Which methods to use? And how to achieve research goals? Among many realized research projects in pedagogy, family sciences, sociology and social anthropology, the paper proposes application of qualitative research methodology in family studies based on constructivist assumptions. Benefits and cost of such research made through observation, interviews, documents analysis will be the subject of interest in the article based on a case study made by the author. The paper is not the whole analysis of qualitative research methods due to many textbooks and papers concerning such topics. The aim of the paper is to present possibilities of using qualitative methodology in family research.

Religijność personalna a satysfakcja z małżeństwa
Kiełek-Rataj, Ewa (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
This study examined the association between religiosity and marital satisfaction. One hundred and twenty husbands and wives completed a 30-item religiosity scale and a questionnaire measuring marital satisfaction. Findings were that wife’s religious behavioural practices, the number o f children, and the husband’s faith were statistically significant (p < .05 and p < .01) predictors o f the husband’s martial satisfaction. The study also found that wife’s religious behavioural practices and the husband’s educational attainment were statistically significant predictors (p < .01 and p < .05) of the wife’s marital satisfaction. Interaction effects showed that the combination o f husband and wife religiosity combined in interesting ways to predict martial satisfaction, over and above the main effects described above. The ultimate aim o f this study was to inform marital and other therapists on the role of religiosity in promoting marital satisfaction.

Since 1945, in Opole Silesia, there have occurred unique processes of forming regional community of varied socio-demographic structure, identity, different experience of history, attitudes and views. Among the social groups inhabiting the region, a significant place is occupied by the population displaced from the Former-Eastem-Lands of Poland, living beside settlers, that is people who came here from others regions of Poland, as well as native Silesians. I present, then, the processes of shaping and changes in the individual and group consciousness in the generation-oriented dimension and also the evolution of the memory of the past and its influence on the current social life. A particularly interesting problem is the attitudes of the young generation towards the transmission of the family remembrance of the past, since – in the light of the research results – the thesis can be put forwards, which needs further verifying in broadly-conducted research into this group though, that are hard to foresee at the moment, the displaced will make a rather disappearing group in Opole-Silesia.

Komunikacyjne zachowania w małżeństwie z perspektywy własnej i partnera
Pupin, Zofia; Waldmajer, Jacek (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)
Interpersonal communication is a complex process which influences the ways individuals function, in particular in a marriage. According to M. Plopy, the communication processes in a marriage are influenced by the following dimensions: giving support to a spouse, the level of engagement in a process of communication and aggressive behaviour directed towards a spouse. The abovementioned issues are used to define the communicative behaviour in a marriage. Thanks to the Communication in Marriage Questionnaire by M. Kaźmierczak and M. Plopy the following was examined: is there a connection between the dimensions of communicative behaviours including: support, engagement and depreciation. Afterwards they examined: l) are there any differences between women and men in the assessment of their own and partner's communicative behaviours; 2) are there any differences between people with short or long married lives when it comes to exhibited communicative behaviour. The obtained results show that there exists a connection between the dimensions of communicative behaviours, including: support, engagement and depreciation. Moreover, the significant differences in the examined areas have been discovered when it comes to both personal and the partner’s perspective.
