Diecezjalne Komisje Liturgiczne jako postulat reformy liturgicznej. Perspektywa polska
Araszczuk, Stanisław (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The first document of the Second Vatican Council’s renewal, the Sacrosanctum Concilium constitution, was promulgated on 4 December 1963. The instructions formulated in that constitution are the foundation for the liturgy reform. They enable the faithful to fully, consciously and actively participate in the celebration of the mysteries of the Church. Among other issues, the constitution called for the establishment of a liturgical commission in each diocese to promote liturgical activities under the direction of the bishop (see Article 45 of Sacrosanctum Concilium). The article attempts to answer the question of whether that call has already been delivered on. The assessment of liturgical commissions in different dioceses in terms of their operation to date and effectiveness may vary. In most dioceses of the Church in Poland, they played a very positive role in the reception of the liturgical renewal of Vatican II. It seems that at the present time, in the light of various signs of a crisis of the Church, diocesan liturgical commissions should take decisive actions in respect of the liturgical formation of the clergy and lay faithful, especially with regard to preparing them for liturgical ministry.

Ars celebrandi – niespełniony postulat odnowy liturgicznej Soboru Watykańskiego II? Refleksje w 60. rocznicę ogłoszenia konstytucji o liturgii świętej „Sacrosanctum Concilium”
Potoczny, Mateusz Rafał (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The liturgical renewal of the Vaticanum II defined a series of postulates that the fathers intended to give new expression to the liturgy of the Roman Church. These postulates were formulated primarily in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium, which became the founding document of the subsequent reform. Among those postulates, some were formulated in precise terms, while others – not written down explicitly – derive from the spirit of the proposed reform. One of these non-explicitly articulated postulates is the concern for the shape of the ars celebrandi. In this study, the author tries to articulate the conciliar indications on this issue and, from the perspective of six decades, evaluate their reception in the liturgy of the Roman Church.

Ars celebrandi liturgii w nauczaniu Benedykta XVI / Josepha Ratzingera
Kwiatkowski, Dariusz (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The article shows the teaching of Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI regarding an important part of the liturgical life, which is ars celebrandi (the art of celebration). His teaching, referring to the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council, bases on the so called “continuity of tradition”. This allows the liturgical celebration to be seen through the context of history and, most importantly, theology. Studied, chosen documents show, that for Benedict XVI ars celebrandi is a theological category and not just a way of celebrating the liturgy. To be able to speak of ars celebrandi, one must notice the connection of liturgical norms, expressed in three elements: the standard character of the episcopal liturgy, the beauty and simplicity of the liturgical signs, and the art, which serves the right experience of the Eucharist. Keeping in mind the dynamics of the liturgical celebrations, a particular spot in said arts is preserved for music and singing. The teaching of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and the Pope Benedict XVI is consistent, showing the liturgy as a cosmic reality. This authentic dialogue will only be effective if a person discovers in liturgy the presence of God and will be able to respond to it. Properly understood ars celebrandi, both that of the liturgy’s servants (bishops, presbyters, deacons), as well as the whole liturgical assembly, leads towards a true Communion with God, through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. The article uses the method liturgical-contextual method.

Odnowa czy reforma liturgiczna w świetle teologii Benedykta XVI
Litawa, Karol (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The issue of liturgical renewal or reform is part of the pontificate of the outstanding theologian and liturgy enthusiast, Pope Benedict XVI. The Pope himself described it as a “reform in continuity” (la riforma nella continuità), and in the opinion of contemporary theologians – a “dynamic hermeneutics of continuity”. Both in the teaching of Benedict XVI and in his personal concern for the ars celebrandi, and especially in his liturgical reform, there is a constant effort to implement the principle of lex orandi – lex credendi into the life of the Church and all its members. This principle of mutual dependence between the liturgy and the faith of the Church is intended to demonstrate the continuity of the worship given to God.

Psalmy w ordo paenitentiae (studium historyczno-liturgiczne)
Superson, Jarosław (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The book of Psalms contained in the Old Testament is a collection of inspired religious songs of abundant topics, through which the Roman Catholic Church offers a sacrifice of praise to God. At the same time, the Church’s mission is to bring God’s forgiveness to all people. This paper demonstrates the presence of psalmic verses or entire psalms in various backgrounds and their texts: in Old Testament Judaic penitential rites, in synagogue liturgy, in Paul’s doctrine of justification, in the teaching of St. Athanasius and in the celebration of the sacrament of penance in the West. The result of the study is the constatation that Scriptura crescit cum orante not only during the reading of Scripture, but above all as its actualization and valorization in the course of the sacrament of penance rite. This statement prompts the question: sine psalmis nulla paenitentia?. The paper was written through the historical-genetic method.

Aspekt liturgiczny kanonicznej wizytacji biskupiej w parafii
Adamczyk, Jerzy; Mazur, Karolina (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The subject of this article is the problem of the liturgical aspect of a bishop’s canonical visitation in a parish. The aim of the study was to show and explain, on the basis of specific provisions, the various liturgical celebrations performed during the visitation. This research was realized through a description and a thorough analysis of the current regulations and texts of the Church Magisterium. The analysis of the above-mentioned sources allowed several main conclusions to be drawn. Firstly, it was pointed out that pastoral visitation is one of the most important expressions of the diocesan bishop’s commitment to serve the people of God entrusted to him. Secondly, the administration of the sacraments by the bishop is shown, and thirdly, the issue of the celebration of non-sacramental forms of divine worship is presented.

Stanowisko Marcina Lutra wobec Maryi Panny
Herok, Piotr (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The author investigates Martin Luther’s writings in order to present his theological views on the Virgin Mary. After outlining the characteristics of Marian piety in the late Middle Ages, the author deals with a new understanding of Marian devotion proposed by the Wittenberg Reformer. To this end, he analyzes Luther’s statements in the Commentary on the Magnificat, the Commentary on Ave Maria and in his sermons. The author then presents modifications to the liturgical year proposed by the Reformer, along with the Marian feasts he has preserved – the Annunciation, Visitation and Purification – at the same time showing their theological justification proposed by Luther. In the next step, the author deals with Martin Luther’s view of other Marian feasts together with the place he gives to the Virgin Mary in the Vespers and in the Creed. In the final conclusion, the author states that in Luther’s concept, the Virgin Mary is present throughout the church year, and the Reformer opposed not the Virgin Mary herself, but abuses in her worship, subordinating it to the primacy of Christ at the same time.

Utwory Friedricha W. Bernera (1790–1827) wykonane podczas wrocławskich obchodów święta Reformacji w 1817 roku
Ślusarczyk, Dawid (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The article presents a fragment of the work of F. W. Berner – organist, improviser known in Europe, and animator of the musical life of former Breslau. Several works by this now forgotten artist were created on the occasion of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Reformation in Breslau and were performed in the church of St. Elizabeth (Haupt Kirche zu S. Elisabeth) and at the University. The article is an attempt to recreate the program of the jubilee, the occasional service and the university gala in the Aula Leopoldina. The Reformation Day in 1817 in Breslau (October 30 to November 1) was also the beginning of the Union Church (Unierte Evangelische Kirche), which, at the will of Frederick III, combined two Protestant denominations: Lutheran and Reformed.

Postacie świętych Cyryla i Metodego w pryzmacie hymnu „Bracia wybrani przez Boga”
Ropiak, Sławomir (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
The Liturgy of the Hours in Polish honours Saints Cyril and Methodius on the fourteenth of February, which is in accordance with the current Roman ecclesiastical calendar. The inclusion, for this day, of its own hymn, Brothers Chosen by God, is what distinguishes Polish piety from other communities of the Universal Church of the Latin rite, which have dispensed with their own hymn in honour of these two saints. The Polish-language hymn has a melody as well as an elaboration in the form of a liturgical song. According to the hymn in question, the brotherhood of Cyril and Methodius flows from their love for Christ. It is His love that is the source of the two missionaries’ unity and the foundation of their apostolic zeal. This truth is in line with the Latin tradition and the pastoral direction set by the Second Vatican Council and the teaching of John Paul II. Cyril and Methodius were endowed by God with wisdom, zeal, knowledge and fortitude. Bringing the light of the Gospel, they shine like torches on the path of the nations. They are shown in the teaching dynamics of the Slavs. The identity of Cyril and Methodius stems from their response to the gift of calling and showing pagan peoples the way to God. The virtues with which they are endowed include wisdom, evangelising zeal, knowledge and fortitude. By giving the peoples a language of prayer, the Brothers became a blessing to the Slavic family. As God’s messengers, today they enjoy the fame due to them and surround the people so that their sufferings bear a hundredfold fruit for heaven Roman tradition praises Saints Cyril and Methodius sparingly and with restraint, compared to the Eastern Rite Churches, which owe a great deal to the Solunski brothers, because the Christian faith, as well as liturgy and culture, grew out of the Gospel language. For Western Rite Catholics, Cyril and Methodius are more like: saints inviting people to sing doxologies to God, protectors of suffering people and apostles inviting people to learn about the Christian traditions of the Eastern European nations.

The Insignia of Ecclesiastical Authority as a Subject of the Arts and Social Sciences
Bogacka, Katarzyna (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
Insignias of the ecclesiastical authority are a category of objects that in many respects stand out from other artefacts. Their impact on the viewer is (at least potentially) multi-layered, and the social functions performed by individual insignia, as previous research has shown, may vary significantly. This article attempts to answer the question about the appropriateness of drawing on the methodology used in social science, not only the humanities and liturgics, in research on insignias. The argument put forward is that these objects have been undergoing formal and semantic transformations in the last two centuries, thereby highlighting their social function, which can be demonstrated by research taking into account problems in the field of communication sciences, as well as the psychology and sociology of art.

Architektura przedsoborowa kościoła pw. św. Józefa w Zabrzu autorstwa Dominikusa Böhma a posoborowa odnowa liturgiczna
Bogdan, Mirosław (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
Describing the synthesis of liturgy and architecture, the article proves that the Church of St. Joseph in Zabrze has always served and continues to serve well in the area of the Holy Liturgy. The views of the international Liturgical Movement from the first half of the 20th century participated in the concept of this church. Its creator, Dominikus Böhm, tried to make an architectural synthesis of two images of a sacred object, the one representing the church as the House of God and the one representing the church as the house of the community of believers. The article presents the symbiosis of Böhm’s pre-conciliar and post-conciliar creative intuition where respect for tradition and conservatism coexist with the spirit of 20th century modernism. When describing the original facade of the church in Zabrze and its plan, it refers to historical style inspirations and symbolic language used in the church of St. Joseph when all this serves the good of architecture and liturgy. At the same time, other sacred realizations of Dominikus Böhm and other architects active at that time are taken into account. This applies to the analysis of church interiors with a central, longitudinal liturgical arrangement and everything that brings us closer to each other in sacred architecture, the common path of history, present and future.

„Expositio antiquae liturgiae gallicanae” – świadek liturgii galijskiej. Tłumaczenie z komentarzem
Frontczak, Bogusława (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)
„Expositio antiquae liturgiae gallicanae” is an anonymous text dating probably from the eighth century, from the area of Gaul. It consists of two distinct parts called ‘letters’, each being a valuable source for the study of the Gallican liturgy prior to the introduction of the Roman order into the Carolingian kingdom. Furthermore, the writing can point to the directions from which the Gallican liturgy may have originated, since the anonymous author, on the one hand, is well acquainted with distinctive features of the Spanish liturgy of the time, while, on the other hand, the allegorical interpretations used in the text are based on the interpretations of Eastern writers (Germanus of Constantinopole or Theodore of Mopsuestia). The aims of this paper are, first and foremost, to make this valuable source of knowledge about the liturgy available to the Polish reader in the Polish language, but also to clarify certain contentious issues which may arise during the reading of the text.
