Polska duchowość maryjna w „Modlitewniku Gertrudy”
Rybicki, Adam (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2008)
The article presents the most important features of Polish medieval Marian spirituality contained in one of the oldest Polish prayer books, the so-called Gertrude’s Prayer Book. Among the evidences of Marian spirituality of that time – apart from liturgical books and songs – private prayer books deserve a special attention. They are not only evidences of private religiousness but also they reflect the official spiritual currents of that time. Since the pertinent work contains many prayers, not all of the prayer book was analyzed, but only those fragments that refer directly to Christ’s Mother. Medieval ascetic-mystic works should be studied ever more penetratingly, as it was a time of the birth of both the Marian cult and spirituality in Polish lands; the more so because those beginnings in a way determined the most important trends in its development for the following centuries.

Duchowy i symboliczny charakter starożytnej egzegezy „lectio divina” i jego znaczenie dla życia duchowego dziś
Zarzycki, Stanisław T. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2008)
The article entitled “Spiritual and Symbolic Character of Ancient Exegesis and Lectio Divina and Its Meaning For Spiritual Life Nowadays” encourages one to draw from the wealth of ancient exegesis done by Origen and St Augustine that does not break away from spirituality (understood as accepting the spiritual meaning of the Holy Scripture and as the attitude of the exegete cooperating with the Holy Spirit on understanding the God’s Word), does not lose the perspective of theology of history and unity of the whole Holy Scripture, of the continuity of Revelation, close relation between the Old and New Covenant, and does not lose sight of Christ as the center, the “key” of the history of salvation. In the first part the author emphasizes the alarming disappearance of religious symbols in contemporary world resulting from the expanding secularism. Next he shows the presence of man in the world of symbols and his ability to symbolize, to read symbols and to express them. Understanding of man in the light of the Bible requires taking into consideration the symbolic language that is contained in it. The ancient “total exegesis” that is “dogmatics and complete spirituality closely related with each other” (H. de Lubac) and that reaches the triple meaning of the Holy Scripture (literal, moral and mystic), took into consideration the rich biblical symbolism and became the way from the symbol to the revealed truth. Lectio divina was more practically directed. It served searching for God, hearing His “voice” and realization of His will. The article shows the degree, to which God’s Word becomes the directive of the Rule and spirituality of the monks gathered around St Pachomius, how they assimilate it and answer it with their life. He also describes, referring to Cassian, close reading God’s Word, attentive listening to it and continuous meditating on it that served a monk as a way of purifying himself from worldly things and burying himself into spiritual and Godly things.

Chrześcijanin jako „dodatkowe człowieczeństwo” Chrystusa. Studium doświadczenia mistycznego bł. Elżbiety od Trójcy Świętej
Miczyński, Jan K. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2008)
Blessed Elizabeth of the Holy Trinity in her writings uses the expresssion: “[Christ’s] additional humanity” (in French: humanité de surcoît). It defines the intimate unification of man with the Saviour, the mystic incarnation of God’s Word in the person of the believer. She does not write about a repetition of Incarnation that happened through the person of Mary, but about the sanctifying, unifying and transforming grace. Man becomes holy by Jesus’ holiness and becomes for Him a space, in which He can continue His work of saving the world.

„Upadłe anioły”, czyli walka z szatanem w doświadczeniu mistycznym s. Wandy Boniszewskiej, stygmatyczki
Popławski, Jarosław M. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2008)
The text of the article refers to the mystic experiences of the Polish stigmatic. Sister Wanda Boniszewska, who died in 2003. She left notes that testify to her spiritual life. Those dimensions of her experience that picture her struggle against the Satan are an important manifestation of her spiritual struggle. It is worth remarking that it did not only look like struggling against the Satan’s temptations, but Sister Wanda often made efforts to wage the mentioned “struggle” in order to save others, especially ones belonging to the clergy. The message in the article is supposed to make the reader realize that in the reality of spiritual life existence of the Satan is something real. Hence it is necessary for anybody who consciously experiences his or her spiritual development to remember that the spiritual life may be accompanied by this extraordinary struggling with the “fallen angel”.

Listy apostolskie: „Tertio millennio adveniente” i „Novo millennio ineunte” jako szczególny wyraz zaangażowania się Jana Pawła II w promocję świętości
Seremak, Waldemar (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2008)
The author of the article tries to show that the Apostolic letters Tertio millennio adveniente and Novo millennio ineunte are a special expression of John Paul II’s involvement in promoting sainthood. First he examined the circumstances and the aim of proclaiming the above mentioned apostolic letters by the Holy Father, and then the Polish Pope’s reasons for expounding the teaching on sainthood. He also characterized the main motifs in this teaching. Finally he concluded that the results of the study clearly show that John Paul II was a great promoter of the idea of sainthood, and the analyzed documents may be considered a particular expression of the Pope’s involvement in the work of promoting the Church’s teaching on sainthood and of making it more profound.

Macierzyństwo duchowe w Kościele a posłuszeństwo na przykładzie osób konsekrowanych
Pałubska, Zofia (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2008)
Spiritual maternity in the Catholic Church is a kind of spiritual guidance realized on an example of Jesus Christ, attracting people to the communion with One God in Three Persons. In practice it is fulfilled by the Church itself, personalizing Christ, through the mediation of people in grace, and especially the people called and predisposed to it. This refers to people who voluntarily accept it as help in striving at perfection. The prerequisite of the effect of maternity of spiritual guidance of people fulfilling it is submission to the example of their personal life and obedience towards God’s will expressed through it. Monastic obedience, resulting from accepting the obligation (by virtue of a vow or a promise) to observe it as evangelical advice is realized on the example of Jesus Christ and Holy Mary for God’s glory, in the care for personal spiritual perfection, the good of the congregation and for the fulfillment of its charisma in the community of the lay. It is externalized in the relation to the canonically established superior, obliged to the maternal spiritual guidance. It is not only an act rendered to the person delegated by God, but – in a way – to Himself – “we should see Christ himself in each superior and have inner respect and love for her, which makes us listen not for the fear of punishment or for the hope of a prize, but for higher reasons, without any hesitation or excuses, with courage and sincere joy resulting from the fact that we can follow Jesus Christ in this respect whose life’s goal was obedience” The importance of obedience of consecrated people who perform spiritual care both of the people living according to evangelical advice, and in the world is expressed in the words by John Paul II – “As consecrated people, both old and young, you stay faithful to your duties towards God, by building each other and supporting each other [...]. Do not forget that it is just you, in a very special way, who can and should proclaim that you not only belong to Christ but you «have become Christ»” (VC 109). This sentence said by the Holy Father expresses the goal of spiritual care of consecrated people in the Catholic Church, the goal which is christization and deitization of their life.
