First, a few textual emendations to the original Greek text are discussed, since the solution to the above problem has sometimes been sought in the discovery of a truly original text, free of this interpretative difficulty. Second, the grammatical and rhetorical explanations of the issue are elucidated. Third, the article presents and evaluates arguments for identifying the proper referent of αὐτῶν, whether in the vestments or in the two animals. In the author’s opinion, the most convincing solution to the problem lies in identifying the referent of the ambiguous pronoun as the two animals.Pozycja God the Benefactor and His Human Clients in Rom. 5-8Kowalski, Marcin (Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, 2018)The author applies the patron-client model to consider the relationship between God and man in Rom. 5–8. First, the model and its basic features are presented in the context of the Greco-Roman society, including its applicability to divinity. Next, the various elements of the model are traced in Rom. 5–8 (asymmetry, exchange of goods, personal relationship, favoritism, reciprocity, kinship language, honor and voluntary entrance). The article finishes with the advantages of reading Rom. 5–8 through the lens of the patron-client relationship.Pozycja Postać Dawida w hebrajskiej wersji Psalmu 151 (11Q5)Biegas, Marcin (Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, 2018)Until the discovery of Qumran scrolls, Psalm 151 was known only through its Greek and Latin versions that make part of the Book of Psalms in the Septuagint and Vulgate respectively. A Syriac translation included in the Apocryphal Psalms of the Syriac collection from the 10th century was also known. In 1965 James Sanders published the Psalm Scroll, a collection of mostly Hebrew Masoretic psalms found in Qumran Cave 11, together with the Hebrew text of Ps 151 that makes part of the scroll. This article focuses on the figure of David depicted in Psalm 151 which in the poetic form retells the story of the son of Jesse found in 1 Samuel, chapters 16 and 17. The article is divided into two parts. In the first one, we describe the scroll and give a general overview of the scholarly discussion concerning the psalm. The second part contains the Hebrew text of Psalm 151 and its Polish translation together with the linguistic, syntactical and theological analyses followed by a brief summing up.Pozycja Inspiration and Truth in the Book of Revelation. An Exegetical Comment on the Pontifical Biblical Commission’s Document “Ispirazione e verità della Sacra Scrittura” (2014)Backhaus, Knut (Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, 2018)The Book of Revelation confronts its readers with the problem of violence and irrationality, thereby putting at stake its claim to inspiration and truth. In a canonical and pastoral approach, the document of the Pontifical Biblical Commission explains this unruly book as an expression of Christ’s “burning love”. However, Revelation offers its reader a dramatic counter-world, in which neither love nor logic may be learnt but the coping with passion and “tears”. The visionary strategy (1) gives the Christians insights into their own truth, (2) establishes their very own, “heavenly” perspective, (3) meticulously provides them with theocentric knowledge of the purpose of their everyday struggles, (4) transforms them by a dramatic experience of redemption, and (5) lets them encounter Christ in an experience of longing and trust.
