Ankieta zakonna nuncjusza G. Garampiego z lat 1773/74 jako podstawa źródłowa do badań nad studiami zakonnymi i ich organizacją
Flaga, Jerzy (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 1989)
As il well known, the problem of intellectual formation of the clergy became particularly pressing in the post-tridentine period, when it was necessary to undertak e religious renewal and defend the Church doctrine, attącked by the Reformation. To find out about the formation and aducation received in those days by members of religious order groups or individual religious orders, we have to examine their internal study systems. The standard of religious studies can be judged by many different criteria, of which two eppear to be particularly important: the curriculum and the organization and structure of the studies. It turns out that much interesting information on the organization and structure of studies in some religious orders, information of a type that is hardly ever found in other kinds of sources, can be obtained from the so-called investigation of religious orders by nuncio G. Garampi, conducted in Poland in the years 1773-1774 (the source is familiar to historians and has been used on some earlier occasions). Among the eleven questions nuncio Garampi addresed to the provincials there were two dealing with religious studies. One concerned the priests who were members of the teaching staffs, the other the seminary students. As some answers went beyond the scope of these questions, the materials contain much valuable information on the organization and structure of religious studies. The present article analyzes the information and assesses its value for the historian.

Udział gestapo w eksterminacji duchowieństwa łódzkiego 1939-1945
Budziarek, Marek (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 1989)
In the Nazi policy towards the Church, political assumptions and goals took precedence over ideological ones; in Poland under German occupation the national factor was foremost. The Kirchenpolitik of the German authorities was determined by the special position of the Roman Catholic Church (and to some extent also of the Evangelical Church of the A ugsburg Confession and of the Reformed Evangelical Church) in Polish society and in Polish history. The extermination of the clergy was to facilitate the lasting destruction of the Polish nation. The most drastic methods of extermination were used against Polish clergy in the Warthegau, an area incorporated into the Reich and governed by Reichstatthalter Arthur Greiser. They were applied by the police apparatus, particularly by the state secret police, the Gestapo. Invested with the greatest of powers, the Gestapo was active in Łódź from 7 November 1939. Religious and church matters lay within the province of Department IV (IV Abteilung Gegner - Erforschung und Bekämpfung), in particular its division 4 with its component unit, the political section (IV B 4 a). Il was headed for a long time by S S-Obersturm führer G. Fuchs. He and his collaborators were responsible for the murder during the war of more than a hundred Catholic priests and several Protestant pastors from Łódź. The victims were arrested for various reasons, then imprisoned, savagely tortured and finally sent to concentration camps, where they suffered martyr's death.

Działalność dydaktyczno-naukowa i organizacyjna ks. prof. Kazimierza Waisa w Uniwersytecie Lwowskim
Wólczański, Józef (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 1989)
The Rev. Professor Kazimierz Wais, Ph. D., was called from Przemyśl to take up a post at the University of Lvov and held the chair of Christian philosophy there for twenty years (1909-1929). He ascended all the rungs of a university career. He was delegate of the Faculty of Theology to the Senate, then vice-dean and dean of the Faculty, and finally vice-rector and rector of the University. He left a lasting mark in many areas of university life. He strove to raise the standards of Christian philosophy teaching within the study of theological disciplines; he succeeded in separating the chair of philosophy from fundamental theology, broadening the curriculum and establishing a philosophical seminar. He was equally concerned about the development of the theological disciplines in reborn Poland, popularizing them in talks and university lectures open to the general public. From his postion in the university chair he promoted neo-scholastic philosophy through his lectures and scholarly publications in metaphysics, theodicy, psychology and cosmology. Apart from their intellectual merits, his works are also notable for his successful attempts to create a Polish philosophical terminology. Some of his works functioned for many years as pioneering aids in the education of clergy and lay intelligentsia.

    Synod prowincjonalny w Łowiczu w 1556 roku
Dyl, Janusz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 1989)
The provincial synod at Łowicz (6-11 November 1556) was held at what was a particularly difficult time for the Catholic Church in Poland. The pressure by Reformation movements was so strong that the Holy See was not even ruling out Poland's secession from Rome. Impatient with the lack of determined anti-Reformation action by King Sigismund August and eager to oppose the various Reformation tendencies, Gniezno archbishop and Primate Mikołaj Dzierzgowski and the first papal nuncio in Poland Alvis Lippomano decided to call a provincial synod to Łowicz. The synod started amid tensions caused by Lippomano's claims to preside over its sessions, a function canonically reserved for the archbishop. What is more, the nuncio had no such right as it was not included in his facultates. All the same, Lippomano did preside over the synod's sessions. The synod dealt with two kinds of problems: doctrine and Church discipline. As regards the former, it decided to accept and promulgate to the faithful of the Catholic Church the articles of faith formulated by the théologiens of the University of Lovanium, which originated from the constitutions of the Council of Florence and from the works of St. Thomas Aquinas; to these the synod added five articles coming from St. Augustine's De Trinitate, because of the rise of antitrinitarians in Little Poland. The decisions on Church discipline were mostly a repetition of decisions taken at earlier provincial synods, especially those of Łęczyca (1547) and Piotrków (1551). The major new decisions included a prohibition to accept, change or leave a benefice without permission of the spiritual authority and a prohibition to give up a benefice without due cause, which had to be stated under oath. Furthermore, it was resolved that every preacher had to make a confession of fait and pass examinations, and have permission to preach from the ordinary bishop. In view of fragments of desecration of the Blessed Sacrament the synod issued regulations on the custody of the Blessed Sacrament, together with an injunction that priests celebrating holy mass should keep close watch on the communicants.

W drodze do kompendium wiedzy z zakresu heraldyki kościelnej
Weiss, Anzelm (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 1989)
The article presents the story and evolution of Bruno Bernard Heim's book Wappenbrauch und Wappenrecht in der Kirche, which first appeared in 1947 (Olten 1947). Its author is a Swiss priest and scholar, employee of the Vatican diplomatic service and since 1969 titular archbischop. For years he continued to enlarge his book, and he has published its more popular English and Dutch versions. The book now is the most im portant source of information on the genesis of coats of arms in Church custom and on the heraldry law of the Christian Churches. It is also an important guide for the composition of Church arms.
