O anonimowym XVII-wiecznym hymnie do Matki Bożej i jego przekładzie. Inspiracje, loci theologici, poetyka, funkcja przekazu
Janus, Katarzyna (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
The article presents an unknown Marian hymn created in the seventeenth century. The work was probably written in Latin and translated into Polish. The text is a philological explication of the work, which takes into account its theological and cultural contexts. Attention is paid to the deliberate medieval stylization of the hymn. It also focuses on explaining the function of poetic imagery used to describe the figure of Mary and her meaning in salvation history. The author’s inspirations, his dialogue with tradition and intertextual references of the hymn are indicated.

Francuski koloryt modlitwy w życiu i pismach Elżbiety od Trójcy Świętej
Miczyński, Jan Krzysztof (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
Elizabeth of the Trinity (Elizabeth Catez; 1880–1906), a French Carmelite nun and mystic, was canonized by Pope Francis on October 16, 2016. Her mysticism is closely linked to the theology of St. Paul the Apostle and the Carmelite school of spirituality. By combining the inspired texts of Scripture in an original way, she discovered “her own” path to holiness. The question to what extent a mystic is also inspired by his or her environment always remains relevant. This paper examines the extent to which Elisabeth’s originality is clothed in the robe of the French school of spirituality. It focuses on three realities: the theological-spiritual ideas of the French school of spirituality of the seventeenth century; the currents of thought of the late nineteenth century – social and religious thought; French popular piety. An analysis of her writings reveals that Elizabeth’s prayer life and her teaching on prayer are in many ways similar to the spiritual currents of her time. Nevertheless, one can come to believe that her mystical experience was thoroughly original, going beyond her education (she was not a theologian). In this way one sees the hidden work of God who enables a human being to follow Him on a new path, according to His plan, commensurate with the vocation He has given.

Współczesny człowiek modlitwy w kontekście kryzysu antropologicznego
Tatar, Marek (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
One of the manifestations of the contemporary human crisis is prayer. This article addresses this issue in the context of the challenges of civilization. Using the analytical method, the genotypic and phenotypic foundations of prayer are indicated. The key is the experience of Holy Scripture, which is a prayer-sanctifying dialogue. The culmination point of this process is the person of Jesus Christ. In this context, it is necessary to notice and specify contemporary challenges, which are multi-layered and multi-faceted. The progress of civilization, which is at the center of modern existence along with increasing apostasy, has placed man at the center of the universe. This has caused a huge anthropological and identity disturbance. The analysis shows that referring to God as Truth in a prayerful interpersonal dialogue can lead to a person regaining his identity.

Apostolstwo św. Moniki w nawróceniu jej syna odczytane w świetle orędzia z La Salette
Pochwat, Józef (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
The role of the Apostolate mentioned by the Second Vatican Council is invariably important. It can be seen in St. Monika’s attitude towards her son St. Augustine in the 4th century, and also in the mission of Mary, revealed at La Salette in France in the nineteenth century. The Apostolate in the aspect of conversion seems to be one of the most pressing needs of the first half of the 21st century.

Śmierć w dobie pandemii. Analiza przeżywania zjawiska śmierci w ujęciu egzystencjalizmu
Bańka, Aleksander Ryszard (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which spread throughout the world in 2020, has painfully confronted modern human with the experience of death and loss. The threat to one’s own life and the passing of relatives defeated by a terminal illness have become a traumatic fact for many people, forcing them to ask again the question about the meaning of life and death. Can this question be addressed today from the perspective of existentialism? It was within this philosophical trend that two main approaches were born – atheistic and Christian – proposing a certain way of understanding the condition of a person affected by the drama of death. This article, based on the reflections of selected representatives of both directions and on the method of their systematic analysis, is an attempt to describe the existential situation of man during a pandemic and to answer the question of what the experience of death may bring to his understanding of life. In this context, the article shows the value of the Christian concept of God’s self-giving in Christ.

The Family After the Prenatal Death of a Child. Theological and Moral Aspects
Dziedzic, Jan (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
The article is aimed at introducing the reader to the issue of the death of a child in the prenatal period and explaining difficult theological and moral aspects. The following issues are discussed: (1) The death of a child in the prenatal period, (2) The moral delimmas of the mother after her baby’s death (3) The duty to respect the body of a deceased child, (4) The moral duty to support the bereaved family. Miscarriage is most often due to a chromosomal abnormality (approximately 60–80% of cases) or other embryo/ foetal problems and is rarely based on choices made by women. After the death of the child, one must remember to respect the corpse. The basic moral obligation towards the deceased body is its dignified burial. The funeral of a stillborn child is not only an expression of the respect for the deceased child, but also is important for the family. It is very often the key to going through the mourning, and the basis of Christian comfort. The presented article will help the reader better understand the problems of the family after the loss of a child, provide answers to the moral dilemmas arising in this context and to teach the right attitudes towards people experiencing mourning after the loss of a loved one.

Cztery kategorie analogii i ich relacja do zagadnienia paradoksu w myśli Hansa Ursa von Balthasara
Wołowski, Lech (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
The article examines four categories of analogy in the reflection of Hans Urs von Balthasar: analogia entis, analogia fidei, analogia libertatis and analogia caritatis. Each of these categories has been analyzed in the perspective of the accompanying paradoxes: the paradox of unity-multiplicity (incommunicability-communicability), the paradox of universale concretum, the paradox of finite and infinite freedom, the paradox of the cross and of the descent into hell. The principle of analogy has been confronted here with the method of perceiving the paradox and the mystery related to it. Each of the above problems has been discussed taking into account the sources of Balthasar’s thought (Anselm, Przywara, Barth, de Lubac, von Speyr) and with particular emphasis on his original reflection. This allows for a conclusion about the central place of the analogy of love in Balthasar’s crowning work called The Trilogy.

Modele jako forma organizacji wiedzy teologicznej
Krupka, Aneta (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
This article deals with the use of models in contemporary theology. The first part of the concerns the methodological issues related to the organization of knowledge in the form of models. Particular attention was paid to the similarities and differences between theology and other sciences. The second part of the article relates the general considerations to specific types of theological models. Trinitarian models, soteriological models and the nuptial model are characterized in turn from the perspective of the methodological challenges they bring. The conducted analysis made it possible to see both the advantages and limitations of the use of these models in theology, as well as the potential for development. The comparison of the models also provided an initial perspective of responding to the methodological challenges of contemporary theology – primarily in the aspect of organizing and expressing theological knowledge.

Magisterium pastoralne w posłudze papieża Franciszka
Hajduk, Ryszard (Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II, 2022)
The teaching of Pope Francis raises some controversy, and even causes accusations of infidelity to Catholic Tradition and turning away from the teaching of his predecessors on the throne of Peter. Such reactions may be due to a misunderstanding of the nature of the papal Magisterium, which has a clear pastoral profile. This article aims to help understand the Pope’s intentions and the content of his teaching, showing the Church’s turn towards pastoral issues, made at the Second Vatican Council inspired by John XXIII, as well as Francis’ approach to the Church’s transmission of the Christian truth. For this purpose, the documents of the Church will be used, the analysis of which, supported by the reflection of theologians, allows the justification of the thesis that the Magisterium teaching of Pope Francis is a continuation of the conciliar thought both in terms of its form and the content of its message. This approach to the transmission of the Christian truth enriches the inner life of the Church and dynamizes its activity in the world.
