Abstract

The article concerns the activity of voluntary care service of the Florentine Archconfraternity of Mercy (Venerabile Arciconfraternita della Misericordia di Firenze). This charitable organization has been helping people with various needs for over 775 years. For centuries, its special mission has been to care for the sick and to provide medical transport. Currently, the Archconfraternity has adjusted its offer to the needs of the time, directing its attention to people of senior age. The first dimension of activity in this sector are visits and support offered to lonely people in their own homes. The second dimension of assistance is the offer of two specialized retirement homes, which offer seniors a wide range of activities and social security.
