Abstrakt
After the Second Vatican Council, silence in the liturgy has retained, and perhaps even rediscovered, its proper place. This happened thanks to the guidelines contained in the conciliar constitution „Sacrosanctum Concilium”. In this document, silence was recognized as one of the signs that allows the participants of the liturgy to participate in a special kind of active participation in the rites being performed. These considerations, in addition to the introduction and conclusion, contain three basic paragraphs. They present liturgical silence in three spaces: the space of the Holy Spirit’s action, the space of the real participation of the people of God and the space of the dialogue of the participants of the liturgy with God. Entering into this reality, and thus maintaining silence and concentration during liturgical gatherings, leads to an encounter with God, which takes place during the celebration of the saving mysteries. To make this possible, both the clergy and the lay faithful need to be trained to understand the value of liturgical silence.
