    The ongoing wars in the world somehow force us to look for answers to questions about the meaning of our existence, the dignity of the human person and injustice caused by the aggression of the stronger. Such questions, however, do not concern war in its general sense. For decades, a war has been waged that is equally bloody and unjust, with defenceless unborn children as victims. In the context of continuous public debates on abortion in Poland, attempts to introduce new legal regulations concerning the issue of abortion and on the 30th anniversary of the Act on Family Planning, Protection of the Human Fetus and the Conditions for Permissibility of Abortion, the author reflects on the possibility to engage in the protection of the life of the conceived children carried out in two dimensions of adoption - legal and spiritual. Their concise characterisation is intended to make all people of good will aware of the possibility of undertaking in their everyday life the struggle in defence of unborn children and to encourage them to take the side of the lovers of life.

    Breve storia del ritrovamento e dell’edizione della “Regula” di Eugippio

    Artykuł w zwięzły sposób przedstawia dzieje odnalezienia przez o. Adalberta de Vogüé O.S.B. „Reguły” Eugipiusza oraz jej pierwszego i jak dotąd jedynego wydania krytycznego (por. Eugippius, Regula, in Eugipii Regula, CSEL 87, ed. F. Villegas – A. de Vogüé, Vindobonae 1976). Przed odnalezieniem „Reguły” wiedziano o jej istnieniu na podstawie świadectwa św. Izydora z Sewilli (por. De viris illustribus 26, 34). Tekst tej „Reguły” uważano jednak za zaginiony. W 1953 roku H. Vanderhoven, F. Masai i P.B. Corbett przygotowali wydanie dyplomatyczne (dokładnie odtwarzające wersję oryginalną) dwóch kodeksów rękopiśmiennych Parisinus Latinus 12205 i Parisinus Latinus 12634, które zawierały tekst anonimowej Regula Magistri. Przygotowując dwadzieścia lat później wydanie krytyczne tejże Regula Magistri, o. Adalbert de Vogüé zauważył, iż kodeks rękopiśmienny Parisinus Latinus 12643 oprócz „Reguły Mistrza” zawiera także antologię tekstów monastycznych ułożonych w postaci prawdziwej reguły mniszej. Badając dokładnie te teksty, o. Adalbert de Vogüé wykazał, że tworzą one właśnie ową „Regułę” Eugipiusza, którą uważano za zaginioną.

    Czy człowiek z natury swej jest religijny?

    This text is an attempt to answer the question of whether human nature needs religion. The author begins by presenting two concepts that are key in this discourse. These are the terms: religion and human nature. Then he undertakes an analysis of the problem, referring to the thoughts of religious experts: Rudolf Otto and Mircea Eliade and the philosopher Max Scheler. The subject of reflection is the definition of man as ‘homo religiosus’. Questioning God’s existence has a negative effect on human nature. This situation is illustrated by the views of two known philosophers, existentialists ‒ Friedrich Nietzsche and Jean-Paul Sartre. Their vision of the world was marked by unbelief in God. Life experience teaches that human nature strives for transcendent reality, longs for God. Any departure from this tendency does not, however, invalidate the religious nature of man, but certainly falsifies it. It results in the conversion of an authentic sacrum into its substitutes. In conclusion, the author draws attention to the mystery of man and God, which should be recognized. It is only in this perspective that the problem indicated in the title can be considered. The inspiration for such thinking is the famous phrase of Saint Augustine of Hippo: ‘The human soul is restless until it rests in God’.

    The Master of Nazareth, from the dawn of Christian history, is the primary inspiration and main motive for the great multitude of people who want to walk radically on the path of chastity, poverty and obedience. It is the path of the evangelical counsels which the Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit has followed since the thirteenth century until today. The status of the Order in the Church is determined by the Constitutions. They also clarify the understanding of religious vows (chastity, poverty and obedience), taking as the basis the entire religious tradition. Currently, their main reference is the teaching of the Second Vatican Council, especially its Decree on the Adapted Renewal of Religious Life Perfectae caritatis. The path of the Pauline vocation through the realization of three religious vows represents the richness of the whole Church. It is a path that is characteristic of the life of consecrated people. Its fundamental motive is love for Christ and the Church.

    The idea and practice of Spiritual Adoption is like an answer to the Fatima call of the Mother of God to the Rosary prayer, penance and reparation made for sins that offend her Immaculate Heart. The initiative of this work was born in 1987 when in the January issue of the „Rycerz Niepokalanej” (Knight of the Immaculate) Paweł Milcarek published a text of daily prayer regarding the spiritual adoption of conceived children in danger of abortion. The Pauline Fathers from the Holy Spirit church in Warsaw became interested in the idea. All in all, it is a personal nine-month prayer for one person in order to save the life of one conceived child, whose identity is known only to God. The adoption commitment precedes the respective promise. With time, the practice of this kind of prayer has spread all over Poland. Currently, this phenomenon is also known in Europe and on other continents. In the Church of the Holy Spirit in Warsaw, up to ten thousand people have taken over the spiritual adoption. The full name of the initiative is: Spiritual Adoption of the Conceived Endangered Child. It is in the official letter of the Holy See of April 25, 1994 addressed to the prior of Jasna Gora, Father Szczepan Kosnik (under this name Pope John Paul II granted her an apostolic blessing). The presented text also contains interesting testimonies of people who have undertaken the spiritual adoption. They are proof that the initiative in question brings real effects not only of a religious nature. Above all, it awakens people’s consciences and shapes the spirit of responsibility for the lives of conceived children.

    „Gdyby nie było Jasnej Góry…”. Papież Jan Paweł II do Prymasa Tysiąclecia

    The published text is an amended version of the author’s statement during a nationwide scientific conference on Christian social teachining according to blessed Stefan Wyszńyski, which took place on October 22, 2021 at the Franicsan Seminary in Łodz, Poland. The article is a reflection on the ministry of Primate Stefan Wyszyński. The considerations are inspired by the words of the Polish Pope, St. John Paul II, uttered on October 29, 1978. They contain the conviction that there would not be a Polish Pope in the See of Peter if there were no Jasna Góra and the entire period of the history of the Church in Poland related to the episcopal and primate ministry of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. The Primate of the Millennium is associated with Jasna Góra. It is not difficult to notice that the Blessed Virgin Mary, especially venerated in the Icon of Jasna Gora, was in a sense an inspiration and affirmation of his entire priestly life. He considered himself her “slave” in a deeply spiritual sense. This was reflected in the specific manifestations and effects of his pastoral ministry. It can be hoped that the almost universal recognition of his pastoral activity (shown on the basis of selected statements) allows for a substantive response to the cited papal statement.

    Ojcowie Kościoła pozostawili bardzo bogate nauczanie dotyczące sakramentu chrztu i to zarówno jeśli chodzi o głębię teologiczną, jak i duchową. Spuściznę tę można podzielić na dwa zasadnicze okresy. Pierwszy z nich to okres najstarszego piśmiennictwa starochrześcijańskiego, a więc czas I i II w., obejmujący pisma tak zwanych Ojców Apostolskich i Apologetów, które ukazują wiarę Kościoła okresu poapostolskiego. Pisma tego okresu mówią o fakcie i sposobach udzielania chrztu świętego, o jego konieczności i zbawiennych skutkach. Czynią to jednak, nie wypracowując jeszcze doktryny dotyczącej samego sakramentu. Drugi okres to czas od III wieku aż do końca patrystyki. Ten drugi okres dostarcza już prawdziwych traktatów, katechez, homilii, listów i innych podobnych pism mówiących o chrzcie świętym i jego znaczeniu w życiu chrześcijanina. Odnośnie do pierwszego okresu, Autor mniejszego artykułu przedstawia jedynie główne teksty, starając się wyciągnąć z nich odpowiednie wnioski. Omówiony został chrzest ukazany w następujących dziełach: „Didaché”, ,,Liście pseudo-Barnaby”, „Listach” św. Ignacego Antiocheńskiego, „Drugim Liście św. Klemensa Rzymskiego”, ,,Pasterzu” Hermasa, dziełach św. Justyna i św. Ireneusza z Lyonu. Pisarze tego okresu świadczą o istniejącej powszechnie praktyce udzielania sakramentu chrztu według formuły i w sposób opisany w Nowym Testamencie. Opierają się oni na mistycznym rozumieniu chrztu, które jest zawarte w Listach św. Pawła Apostoła. Natomiast odnośnie do drugiego, o wiele bogatszego okresu, ukazane zostały najważniejsze zagadnienia dotyczące omawianej tu problematyki, które Autor zilustrował przykładami. Teksty patrystyczne drugiego okresu – czasu po zakończeniu prześladowań chrześcijan – podzielił według tematyki dotyczącej znaczenia i symboli chrztu. Rzeczywistość ta jawi się jako: najpiękniejszy i najwspanialszy dar Boży, brama do życia wiecznego i źródło życia; wyznanie i sakrament wiary, poprzez który stajemy się członkami Kościoła, który rodzi nas jak matka do nowego życia; duchowe oświecenie łączące nas ściśle ze śmiercią i zmartwychwstaniem Chrystusa; zaślubiny z Chrystusem; powrót do utraconego raju, odrodzenie w Duchu Świętym. Ojcowie tego okresu widzą symboliczny związek pomiędzy chrztem, a wodami na początku stworzenia świata; między chrztem, a potopem; między chrztem, a przejściem Izraelitów przez Morze Czerwone;między chrztem, a wodą w Kanie Galilejskiej.

    Il commento al “Simbolo Apostolico” nell’Expositio Symboli di san Venanzio Fortunato

    Saint Venantius Fortunatus, explaining in the Expositio Symboli the profession of the orthodox faith, places particular emphasis on the person of the Son of God and his saving incarnation. For the bishop of Poitiers, Jesus Christ is the Messiah foretold by the Prophets, he is the Savior and the King who for our salvation descended from heaven and assumed our flesh by being born of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary. Nevertheless, always remaining God, he became man to redeem man. Jesus Christ is, therefore, the God begotten by the Father before all centuries, and he is the man born of the Virgin Mary for our salvation. He is, therefore, the true non-adoptive Son of God. The Word of God, incarnating, assumed the whole human nature (together with the soul and the body), because he wanted to save the whole man and not just some of his parts. The whole man, therefore, was redeemed and saved by the incarnation of the Son of God. The invisible and impassive Son of God became visible and passable for us, not losing, however, anything of his invisible and impassive divinity.
