Alegoryczny komentarz Filona Aleksandryjskiego do perykopy Rdz 6,1–4
Zyzek, Kacper (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
Philo of Alexandria interpreted Genesis 6:1–4 by means of his chosen method, the allegory. In this way, the passage takes on a significantly different meaning from the literal one, one rather closer to the overall thought of the philosopher. The interpretation concerns ethics more than angelology, stressing the benefits of choosing the logos and the damages of rejecting it. Angels then, in accordance with the Stoic demonology, denote souls, daughters of men ‒ various low passions, and giants ‒ those who are immersed in the pleasures of the flesh. Such a reading of this difficult Genesis passage is absolutely unique in the history of exegesis.

    Kościół w służbie chorym
Zając, Jerzy (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
The century preceding the social processes of transformation in Poland in the 1990s prompted via new state and church legislation the creation and equal functioning of public and private health care facilities, including those run by church bodies. The reactivated Church institution, Caritas, along with the Diocesan Caritas of Plock, brought to life new forms of care for the sick and those in need of medical care and their families. The health care crisis in Poland, as it were, forced the genesis of such activities.

    Egzemplaryzm moralny jako postawa solidarna
Zadykowicz, Tadeusz (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
Imitation is an important factor in the moral development of the human person. Taking on the function of an example or model for others and the corresponding actions of the imitators who conform to those of the external model may be interpreted as an attitude of solidarity. This specific kind of love and service to others obliges people to involvement for the sake of the common good, for the well‑being of all and everyone. An important element of this commitment is exhibiting in one’s own behavior authentic values, which take on the stature of an exemplar or model for others. In that way, moral exemplarism is a kind of contribution to the well‑being of others and to the common good, as it is a call to participate in the values interiorized by the model. The imitator’s attitude can also be seen as one of solidarity, through which he is able to properly assess the values of the models, and follow only the real ones. In this manner, he can become a responsible participant in society. Openness towards models is a sign of an active presence in community life, which builds up the richness of its members.

Kształtowanie świadomości ekologicznej w kulturze polskiej
Wolter, Edyta (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
The natural environment of a human being consists of natural ground (where one can find food) and a society (in which one lives). Additionally, the person constitutes his or her own environments. This article explains the process of shaping ecological awareness during the Second Republic of Poland (1918–1939) in the pages of the yearbook “Wierchy” printed in Lviv since 1923. “Wierchy” replaced the journal “Pamiętniki” (which had been published by the Polish Tatra Association until 1920). It was devoted to the issue of the problems of the mountains and its territory and culture ‒ as an organ of the Polish Tatra Association (published by the General Management together with the Lviv branch of the Association). The editorial committee consisted of prof. dr Jan Gwalbert Pawlikowski (editor‑in‑chief), prof. dr Adolf Chybiński, prof. dr Walery Goetel, dr Roman Kordys, and Major Bronisław Romaniszyn. The yearbook included numerous scientific articles explaining the significance of the idea and practices for the protection of flora and fauna in the Tatra Mountains. The urgent need for the protection of the Tatra environment was described in the journal as was the cultural determinants of human relationships with nature using examples from scholarly, poetic and musical works which form Polish cultural heritage.

Wiśniewski, Adam (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
The parish in Kryniczno was handed to the Salesians of Środa Śląska on February 1, 1951 and remained in their possession until February 15, 1993, when the administration of the parish passed into the hands of the diocesan clergy. Parishioners took part in daily masses and worship. Parish choirs, altar boy communities and rosary circles were founded. Pilgrimages for youth to Częstochowa and trips to World Youth Day were organized. During their stay in the parish of Kryniczno, Salesians carried on renovations of sacred objects, commercial objects, and other inventory. They conducted the restoration of the rectory and the church; restored statues of saints and other equipment, and purchased necessary furnishings. The pastoral activity of the Salesian priests in Kryniczno concluded in 1993.

W poszukiwaniu utraconego sensu. Człowiek współczesny jako homo patiens
Szulc, Aleksandra (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
Viktor E. Frankl ‒ psychiatrist, neurologist, philosopher ‒ in analyzing the situation of contemporary man, observes that he has largely lost contact with the spiritual sphere, that which is the most human in him. This state is compounded by the prevailing situation in science which places primacy on reductionisms that grasp man unilaterally. Man, according to Frankl, is not homo sapiens, zoon politikon or homo faber, but rather homo patiens, because this skill of suffering distinguishes him from the natural world. To suffer means to take a certain attitude towards that which is difficult and inevitable. When he embraces a proper attitude towards inevitable suffering, making it sensible, man realizes his own existence and contributes to the development of other people.

This article reviews the most import ant topics in the encyclical of Pius Xi titled Dilectissima nobis in which the Pope expresses his opposition to the persecution of the Catholic Church and to attempts to restrict religious freedom in Spain during the 1930s. The Church was regarded as an enemy of the state and of social progress. The first two sections of the article provide the historical background of Spanish anti‑clericalism and its increasing hostility to the Church. The third section shows how legislators successfully took away the Church’s ability to function in society. The fourth section discusses the most important topics in the encyclical Dilectissima nobis. In the last section, the author presents the person of Pope Pius XI in the context of his time. He was an enemy of communist ideology, which enslaved man, and a great defender of human dignity.

Skowroński, Bartłomiej (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
This article is a theoretical and empirical analysis of the values declared by teenage mothers. It provides an overview of the existing research on the values of youth with particular emphasis on the values of mothers who are minors and then discusses the results of the author’s own research studies. The studies are comparative in nature and include two control groups: high school girls and mothers co‑creating a complete family. Specialized statistical methods were used to analyze the data in the studies: analysis of variance and analysis of profiles using the coefficient rc Cohen.

Obraz faryzeuszów w świetle współczesnych badań
Siergiejuk, Arkadiusz (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
This article is an attempt to systematize, in a critical way, contemporary work on opinions of the Pharisees. It does not rely on an analysis of primary sources, but rather demonstrates the current state of research on this topic. This article addresses the question of sources and discusses the maximalist and minimalistic positions of contemporary scholars on pharisaism. The article presents eleven main points of interest concerning the Pharisees.

„Trzy dobre uczynki” w ujęciu teologii moralnej społecznej
Gocko, Jerzy; Kołtun, Katarzyna (Wyższe Seminaria Duchowne Towarzystwa Salezjańskiego, 2013)
The goal of this article is recollection of traditional forms of penance often called; Three Good Deeds: fasting, almsgiving and prayer. Looking at the main object of these reflections from the point of view of social moral theology allows one to see how influential are these three good deeds on one’s life, in the fulfillment of oneself, in the relationship with God as well as in the relationship with others. Apart from the above and through the use of Biblical tradition, teaching of the Fathers and the rich teaching of the Church, it also reflects on their source of vitality from antiquity to modern times. The final part of the research focuses on threats in practicing these three good deeds, which includes: secularism, lost sense of sin, consumerism, and permissivism. It is worth mentioning that this refection gains an additional value during this “year of faith,” especially if interpreted in the context of living faith. Often due to the lack of faith fasting, almsgiving and prayer are forgotten and misunderstood.

Educational Exchange and New Opportunities ‒ the Perspectives of Polish Erasmus Students in Portugal

Constantine Iłowiecki, who derived from the Ostoja coat of arts, was born in Iłowiec (currently Iłówiec near Śrem) on 17 March 1709 and died on 20 February 1777 in Ląd. After studying at the Academy of Poznan, he entered the Cistercian Monastery in Ląd in 1727. He was ordained in 1732 and in 1733 Antoni Łukomski, the abbot of Ląd, appointed him as his successor and as the prior of the Ląd Monastery. Following Łukomski’s death on 8 May 1750, Constantine Iłowiecki became the abbot of the Ląd Monastery. In the church in Ląd, he issued a stucco tombstone for his predecessor and in the artwork, he posted his initials: ‘C I’ (fig. 1). In 1760, he began the construction of the parish church in Ląd, where his portrait is preserved (fig. 2). In 1752, he became commissioner and inspector general of the Cistercian monasteries of the Polish province, an office which he held for three terms. He authored textbooks on logics, metaphysics, and the philosophy of nature, which are preserved in the Abbey library in Mogiła. The Ląd Monastery features two plaques of cast iron with decoratively composed initials of Abbot Constantine Iłowiecki. These were created after 1752 (figs. 3, 5) and were funded in 1767 by Iłowiecki himself (figs. 4, 6). The plaques commemorate his election as General Commissar of the Cistercian Province and the anniversary of his ordination and entrance into the order.
