Symbolika Baranka Bożego w hymnach Liturgii Godzin
Idzik, Grzegorz (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2011)
In this article I attempted to propose an interpretation of the Holy Lamb figure as presented in Liturgy of the Hours hymns (Polish edition). Focusing on this particular basic Christological title, I intended to address inquiries concerning the iconographie types of Christ – a Holy Lamb – as exposed in 28 hymns of the liturgical book analyzed below. The conducted analysis and deciphering the symbolical and iconographie content reveals that the Holy Lamb was pictured in 3 theological variants. In six hymns Christ is symbolized by Paschal Lamb, in ten – He appears as the Holy Lamb possessing the features of the Suffering Servant of Yahweh, in twelve hymns – as an icon of apocalyptical Lamb. The study presented below is the first approach to the topic of the Holy Lamb in Liturgy of the Hours and obviously – does not cover all its aspects. The sheer theological and liturgical riches present in the Church hymns prompted the author to select this topic, which hopefully will be extensively explored and revealed in subsequent research.

Kult św. Józefa u śląskich cystersów
Wolnik, Franciszek (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2011)
The Cistercian liturgy is Christocentric, but the Cult of Holy Mary is very popular in the Order. Cistercians worshiped St. Bernard, St. Benedict and other Saints, who were members of the Cistercian Order and the Order of Saint Benedict. Saint Joseph was widely worshiped throughout ages, including modem times. The dynamic Saint Joseph’s Brotherhood in Krzeszów and Jemielnica, and high importance of the celebrations of Betrothal of the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph (23 January), the Feast of St. Joseph (19 March) and solemnity of the Patronage of Saint Joseph (second or third Sunday after Easter) are the evidence of the cult of Saint Joseph in Silesia.

Msze polifoniczne w redukcjach jezuickich Indian Moxo i Chiquito
Nawrot, Piotr (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2011)
Although since the release of the film The Mission have already passed two decades, so the same movie as the music composed for her by Italian composer Ennio Morricone they enjoy great popularity. Morricone did no know authentic music of the Jesuit missions, which in the 1980s, when the film was made, was considered lost. Based on the study of the Jesuit scholar, Clement J. McNaspy, The Lost Cities o f Paraguay, however, he knew that music played an important role in the work of the evangelization of the natives. He was also well informed about the great musical talent of Indian musicians and choirs and orchestras established in every mission town. Recent studies, based on authentic musical manuscript for centuries in the mission churches and houses of the Indians of the Bolivian rainforest zone, do not question the charm of the music composed for the film. However, they demonstrate undeniably that the level music achieved in the Jesuit reductions and its seductive-for the soul- beauty surpassed the proposal of Morricone. Ave Maria Guarani, Penance, Conquest etc. of the film have his pair in the archives of Bolivia, where thousands of pages of Baroque music created in the missions were recently obtained. Using the example of the polyphonic masses stored in the music archives of Moxo and Chiquito Indians, the article describes the musical culture and liturgies in the Jesuit reductions, confronting them with celebrations held in cathedrals and parishes of the 17th and 18th century America. The essay recounts musical works of the missions both for Ordinarium Missae and Proprium Missae.

    Karl Kempter (1819-1871) – życie i twórczość
Poźniak, Grzegorz (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2011)
The article presents the person and works of Karl Kempter – a south German composer, musician and artist who was consequently and deeply dedicated to liturgy. However, the academic literature has not devoted a lot of attention to him so far. Kempter is not even mentioned in: The Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the first edition of Die Music Geschichte und Gegenwart and also in Polish lexicographic works like Encyklopedia Muzyczna PWN among others. The article consists of three parts. In the first part – Karl Kempter’s life is described whereas in the second one – his works are presented briefly in the last, third part of the article Kempter’s compositions are listed. Reviving the memory of composers like Karl Kempter is aimed at presenting the contemporary church musicians with works that might be also nowadays a good suggestion for the repertoire of many parish choirs. It seems that the level of these choirs in today Poland (and not only in Poland) and the vocal and instrumental groups of Karl Kempter's time is very much alike.

Boże Narodzenie w oczach współczesnych Amerykanów. Oratorium sceniczne „El Niño” Johna Adamsa
Miklaszewska, Joanna (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2011)
Stage oratorio El Nino (2000) is associated with the theme of the Nativity. Its title in Spanish means “the little boy” (it also refers to the Infant Jesus – El Nino Jesus), but to the modem listener provides a connotation to the famous weather anomaly that caused particularly severe damage and destruction in winter of 1997. The main message of El Nino is to present the miracle of the Nativity as a biological miracle, of a universal character, which is shared in some way by people living around the world. Libretto contains passages from the Bible, medieval and anonymous texts, apocrypha and poetry of authors living in the twentieth century, from the circle of Latin America. Important part of the libretto are poems written by women. Adams’s oratorio has some links with the aesthetics of postmodernism by the variety of texts and references used, a silent film introduced in the stage work and also by using of repetitive techniques by the composer. However, Adams breaks postmodern convention through a clear structure of the work and a very dramatic style of music. Intertextual context of the oratorio is manifold. It is based on links with the musical tradition (especially with Handel's oratorio Messiah, which was the model for the music of this work) and with the broader tradition of European culture.
